What it treats
Skin laxity. Crepey texture, a softer jawline, loose skin after weight loss or childbirth. The effect builds across a course and it is temporary, which is why it is sold as a course rather than as a promise.
What it will not do
Remove a significant amount of excess skin or fat. Radiofrequency works on laxity. If that is what you have, the honest answer is a surgical option, and you get it at the consultation rather than after six sessions.

Jowls & submental
The double chin and the lower face. A small area and precise work, and the one where the Venus Legacy upgrade matters most: it is the only device here with a facial indication.
Face & neck
Divided into zones and worked zone by zone, not swept over in one pass.
Abdomen
Loose skin after weight loss, liposuction or childbirth.

Built around the back of the upper arm.
Legs & thighs
Firming and lifting on the legs. If dimpling rather than laxity is the main concern, Cellulite Treatment is the better start.

The hands-on work treats the surface, the fascia and the lymphatics. A machine heats the tissue underneath them, so the two are not doing the same job twice, and it goes in the appointment you already have.

You do not have to pick. Which machine suits you depends on the area and on what is bothering you, and your therapist decides at consultation.

How it goes
Before
We start by talking it through: which area you want treated, what is bothering you about it, and anything in your medical history we should plan around.
During
Fifty minutes on the table. The applicator keeps moving, and your therapist brings the area up to temperature zone by zone.
After
You go straight back to your day. The area usually feels warm and looks a little flushed for a while, and that settles on its own.

Before you book
Can you get rid of hanging belly skin without surgery?
Not realistically. Radiofrequency treats skin laxity and can improve the look of sagging skin, but it is not enough for a significant amount of excess skin or fat. For moderate to severe cases the honest answer is a surgical option such as abdominoplasty or liposuction. We would rather tell you here than after six sessions.
What is radiofrequency?
Energy that has been used in medical and aesthetic practice for decades. It delivers controlled heat into the deeper layers of the skin, which stimulates collagen. The heat is the working part of the treatment, which is why the therapist keeps the applicator moving and works the area up to temperature.
Can it permanently tighten my skin?
No. The effect is temporary. It can last several months to a year depending on the person, and it fades as the skin carries on ageing. No treatment stops that. Sun protection and moisturiser prolong what a course achieves.
How many sessions will I need?
It builds across a course rather than arriving in one visit, which is why we sell it as a course. Six is the usual plan and your therapist confirms it at consultation.
Is it safe, and does it hurt?
It is non-invasive, nothing is cut or removed, and side effects are usually limited to warmth and transient redness. Most people describe it as a hot massage. If it stops being comfortable, say so and the energy comes down.
What does the research actually show?
Small studies, and worth naming rather than gesturing at. Thirty of thirty-one people improved by at least one wrinkle grade in one trial; eleven of eleven improved in skin laxity in another. Both were run on the multi-polar platform Venus Legacy is built on rather than on the base treatment, and eleven patients is a very small sample. Full citations are at the foot of this page.
Should I add a machine session?
For skin quality it is usually Venus Legacy, and for the jowls and lower face it is the only option of the two, because VelaShape III has no facial indication at all. Your therapist decides at consultation. See Venus Legacy.

The effect is temporary
Radiofrequency skin tightening produces a temporary improvement in the appearance of
skin laxity. It does not permanently tighten skin, it does not stop skin ageing, and it is
not a treatment for excess skin or for weight. Results vary from person to person and build
across a course.
The published evidence, and what it was run on
- Krueger N, Levy H, Sadick NS. Safety and efficacy of a new device combining
radiofrequency and low-frequency pulsed electromagnetic fields for the treatment of facial
rhytides. J Drugs Dermatol 2012;11(11):1306–1309. Thirty of thirty-one
patients improved by at least one grade on the Fitzpatrick Wrinkle and Elastosis Scale,
scored blind by two physicians; mean score fell from 5.2 to 3.6. - de Oliveira GV et al. Multipolar radiofrequency and pulsed electromagnetic fields
for skin laxity. Dermatol Res Pract 2017;2017:4146391. Eleven of eleven patients
with mild to moderate photoageing improved over eight weekly sessions. Eleven is a very
small sample and we say so.
Both trials were run on the multi-polar radiofrequency platform that
Venus Legacy is built on, not on the system used for the base
treatment on this page. We are not going to present a machine result as a result for the
hands-on service.
